Dr. Lisa Walton began her professional career as a mechanical engineer before discovering her true passion for understanding and solving human-centered challenges. This realization led her to transition into the field of psychology, where she pursued a Doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Walton has enjoyed various professional roles, including clinician on multidisciplinary teams, 504/IEP coordinator, parent consultant, and therapist. She is also a certified Mindful Educator and a skilled parent effectiveness instructor. Her extensive experience in both school and clinical settings equips her to offer strength-based assessments and craft comprehensive interventions that bolster a child's academic, emotional, and behavioral development. Dr. Walton firmly believes that every child can thrive and become their best self in a nurturing environment supported by the right mix of resources.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Walton enjoys spending quality time with her family and numerous pets, attending live music events, cheering at Giants baseball games, or running the trails in local open spaces.

Consultation with families to understand their child's unique gifts and challenges to determine a path for your child to thrive or discuss why a child may be struggling within their environment.
Comprehensive Evaluations include Neurodevelopmental Assessments to explore an individual's cognitive, learning and behavioral functions. It provides important information for medical and school teams.

Support and Advocacy for families in navigating private or public school systems and IEP/504 process.

The process starts with a complimentary 20-minute phone call where we can discuss your concerns and find the right path forward for your family.
A formal intake follows which includes a 60-90 minute detailed understanding of your child's developmental, medical and educational history.
If we choose to move forward with an full assessment, I will clarify with you what areas to explore (i.e. social, learning, academic, attention/memory), the assessment questions to be answered, and possible diagnoses to consider.
Next steps may involve a school or home observation and/or consultation with additional providers or caregivers.
Testing in the clinic is scheduled over multiple 2-3 hour sessions, with the total time necessary depending on the referral questions and age of the client. It is likely between 4-8 hours in person.
After the evaluation, a 60-minute feedback meeting is scheduled with the family, and a final written report is provided outlining findings and recommended treatments.
With older school age children and adolescents, a feedback letter and/or meeting is scheduled; this is helpful in answering any questions your child may have.
